Triathlon was a way to prove to myself that I was still a badass athlete after having knee surgery. I just jumped in without much knowledge. It wasn't until 2017 that I started taking it seriously. I used TriDot for a few months and thought I was smart enough, and had enough time, to develop my own training program. After using a handful of free plans off the internet and cobbling together my own plans, I realized that I was incredibly wrong. So, I returned TriDot and have not regretted it. It's given me confidence and assurance.

I primarily race off-road triathlons because I love to mountain bike. I really like the off-road sprint distance because it's 100% gas the whole time with very little room for error. After placing top 5 in a number of races, I began to wonder if I could qualify pro. That meant jumping up to the full course distance (roughly Olympic distances on the bike and run since it's hard to tell a trail where to start and end). I trained a lot to become competitive at that distance in off-road, but came up short in 2018. At the end of the off-road season, I knew that a 70.3 was not a stretch, so I decided to go for it. However, quality time with my wife took precedence, so I decided to wait until 2019 to do a 70.3. So, May 4 in St. George will be my first!

I don't do quotes. I do, however, give my dog, Suess, a new nickname just about everyday. Today it was Gilbert Hornbuckler
