My triathlon journey really started about 8 years ago when I was overweight and was not happy with the way I looked and felt. I got out and started running, just a mile walk/run at first and eventually increased my distance as time went on and really enjoyed it. A few years later, I decided I wanted to do something a bit different, so I bought a bike and took up cycling while still doing some running.
Fast forward to a few years ago when a good friend urged to me to try a triathlon. I had not swam since I was a kid and never competitively, but I am never one to back down from a challenge so I signed up for my first local sprint race and started training with really no structure or direction. I started researching and googling training plans and I surprised myself by doing pretty well my first go at it and was competitive
After doing numerous sprints and a couple of olympic distance triathlons, I decided I wanted to jump headfirst into a half distance so I signed up and trained for Ironman 70.3 North Carolina. Once again I turned to the internet for my canned training plan and nutritional information. I really had no idea what I was doing and ended up finishing in 5:08 and some change. Although I was happy with this finish, I totally fell apart the last half of the run with cramping and I felt like I could do more. I have a long term goal of qualifying for Worlds and maybe even Kona someday and to do that I needed structured training tailored to me and that’s where TriDot comes in.
I’m a bit of a data geek and love big data so when I heard about TriDot I had to give it a shot and I’m glad I did! I started out with the 2018 preseason project and now a TriDot ambassador. I am swimming, running, and cycling faster and stronger than I ever have before and with less injuries and fewer training hours. The training plans are tailored just for me and uses actual data rather than coaching ideas or philosophies. I only advocate products I believe in, and TriDot is something I not only advocate, but also recommend to others. I’m looking forward to seeing where this triathlon journey takes me with TriDot leading the way.
