Bio

I have been married for 32 years to my best friend and we have four "boys" (who are now grown men). We love the outdoors in the form of water-skiing, snow-skiing, dirt-biking (bikes with POWER), basketball and basically all forms of movement. I have five grand-kids that are my heart. I know what it is like first had to try to balance family, work and a quest for pursuing that ever elusive unicorn we call "our best".

I come to triathlons from a track and field background. Track and Field has been part of my life since I was 10 years old. I was an NCAA Div 1 as a sprinter/jumper and after college, continued coaching track an field for 25 years, 23 of which was serving as Head Coach. I continued to run post-collegiate - competing in Master's Track, running events (including Boston Marathon), but it was 2011 when I first began my quest to "TRY a TRI" and where I found my new passion!

Since then, I became a certified USATri Level I coach and am excited and honored to be alliance coach with TriDot and continue to build upon and enhance my coaching expertise into the world of triathlon.

Background

As an athlete, I have an extensive background in Track and Field - competing in Division I Track and Field at Brigham Young University as a jumper and sprinter. At the completion of my collegiate career, I transitioned into road running. I spent several years being a mother to four incredible sons before tackling the marathons. I was fortunate enough to be able to run the Boston Marathon in 2011 and 2014. It was after the 2011 Boston Marathon that I realized I wanted something more - more powerful, more exciting, more exhilarating. This is when I found Triathlon! I began competing in sprint, olympic and half ironman distances and haven't looked back! I qualified for and competed in my first ITU World Age Group Draft Legal Championships in Rotterdam, Netherlands in Sept, 2017. I was selected to be a brand ambassador and part of Team JL Velo and MDrive for 2018. I was also selected as an Ambassador for USA Triathlon for the 2017-2018 year where I will be able to share my story and promote the sport that has given so much life, health and love to me and my family.

As a Coach, I have been involved in coaching Track and Field for 25 years. Twenty three of those years, I have served as head coach. During my tenure as a Head Coach, my team grew from 50 athletes to over 200 athletes - winning multiple league, district and regional titles. We had several top 5 team finishes as well as multiple individual State Champions in the State of Washington. While serving as head coach, I worked with Alexa Efraimson, a middle distance runner who was fortunate to sign a contract with NIKE her junior year.

In 2016, I began and successfully completed the course work for the Level 1 USA Triathlon certification and in 2017 joined the TriDot coaching staff. My areas of coaching expertise include: Sprint, Olympic, 70.3 Ironman distance, biking, running and the psychology of sport and competition.

Philosophy

My coaching philosophy is to develop a strong relationship with the athlete, to work synergistic-ally and positively, towards excellence. I am a firm believer in efficient training, life balance and in tapping the power of the mind to optimize not only performances, but our every day approach to life. As a coach, I have helped athletes to the top by building their mental toughness, positive fortitude and visualization of their peak performance throughout their training. I truly believe in that there is growth in every experience - success or failure. I truly enjoy being along on the ride with my athletes in those journeys.
